Eye Hygiene 101

Do you know how important it is to take care of your eyes? Practicing good eye hygiene will keep your eyes strong and healthy and less likely to be affected by diseases like glaucoma. Follow these daily routine suggestions to jump-start health habits:

  • Consider Kale—A diet rich in nutrients will benefit your eyesight. Dark, leafy greens like kale and spinach and foods rich in omega-3s like salmon and tuna will promote good eye health.
  • Swap the Shades—If you can’t remember if your current sunglasses offer at least 100% UV-blocking, you may want to consider buying a pair that offers total protection from both UVA and UVB light to ensure you’re keeping your eyes safe from harmful rays.
  • Ditch the Digital—Well, not completely, but stay conscious about how much screen time you’re getting in a day. Try adding a red-tint filter to your digital devices and keep use to a minimum at least an hour before bed.

Another way you can ensure good eye health is to have routine eye exams. Schedule an appointment with us today!

Specialty Eyewear

If you enjoy multiple hobbies, participate in sports, or are prone to spending long hours on a computer you may want specialty eyewear. Specialty eyewear is specifically designed with your busy lifestyle in mind. In addition to being activity-specific, these specialty lenses also help you see better and can help keep your eyes safe!

If you participate in specialized tasks chances are, at some point, your eyes have become strained or fatigued. Why is this happening? The “one size fits all” approach doesn’t work when it comes to eyewear, and your eyes are having trouble focusing on the task, even if you wear prescription lenses. But there is good news! Specialty eyewear can help you keep doing the things you love.

Computer

Computer eyewear focuses your eyes on the “intermediate” distance. Also known as the distance between you and your computer screen. Doctors prescribe a different prescription because this is different distance than your traditional lenses. Computer lenses help block harsh blue light and reduce glare for increased eye comfort.

Hobbies

If your work or hobbies include close-up tasks like soldering or needlepoint, specialty eyewear increases your prescription strength so you have clear vision even at a short distance. Resist the temptation to buy drugstore reading glasses, which have the same prescription in each lens. If you plan on focusing at very close distances for long periods of time, it’s a good idea to invest in specialty eyewear that accommodates you and keeps your eyes sharp and focused.

Sports

Safety sports eyewear enhance performance and vision for each sporting activity. Sunglasses are customized for the particular sport itself to optimize your vision no matter the location or situation. These glasses enhance performance by increasing visual acuity and color contrast while keeping your eyes safe with impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses.

Driving

Anti-reflective treatment is great for any driving eyewear, including polarized sunwear or prescription eyeglasses. Driving eyewear reduces glare caused by the reflected sun during the day or oncoming car headlights at night. Allowing more beneficial light into your eyes for visual acuity in any high- or low-light situation.

Safety

Additional specialty eyewear options include safety goggles or shooting glasses. High impact resistant material provides more coverage than your normal glasses. Wrap-around designs and top and side shields are also available for additional eye protection. Special spring hinges increase durability in shooting glasses.
